Youth Groups

Our young people are actively involved in the Effingham Community and in First Presbyterian Church activities. The ministry is divided into a Junior High Youth Group and a Senior High Youth Group.

The youth groups lead Sunday worship twice a year, collect cans of soup and other non-perishable foods on "Souperbowl Sunday," conduct fund-raising activities (such as car washes and bake sales), participate in Church Mission trips, and enjoy a variety of social activities and events.

The social activities our youth groups enjoy include canoe trips, photo scavenger hunts, bowling, nature center events with youth from other churches, roller skating, and talent shows. Our youth also participate in the youth-adult Christmas and Palm Sunday cantatas, in our worship band, and in other Sunday worship music. They also occasionally attend concerts at the Effingham Performance Center together and travel together to St. Louis for Christian concerts.

Each summer, several youth attend Camp Carew: The presbytery's camp just south of Carbondale, Illinois. Carew's camps include a Music, Art, and Drama Camp; a Photography Camp, a Horseback Camp, and a High Adventure Camp.

Youth Triennium

Every third year our youth have an opportunity to attend the Presbyterian Youth Triennium. The Triennium is hosted on the Purdue University Campus and features daily worship, bible study, and social opportunities to interact with Christian youths from many other states and countries.
